Our Company
SUP Paddle Lounge is built by Blue Firefly, a small outdoor gear company founded by husband and wife Alex and Myra. We design products for people who love being outside and want to spend more of that time with the people they love.
We're based in East Tennessee, at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It's a place that gets into you. Lakes, rivers, trails, and ridgelines in every direction. Building a life here gave us a deep love for the outdoors and a habit of spending as much time in it as possible. Our company name comes from the Blue Ghost firefly, a rare species found almost exclusively in the Southern Appalachians. They glow a steady, soft blue instead of the usual flickering yellow, and if you've ever seen them in the wild, you don't forget it. That felt like the right spirit for what we're building.
The SUP Paddle Lounge is our first product, and it started with one of those evenings on the water that you don't want to end. We're paddleboarders, and for us the best part of any trip has always been the float at the end. Drifting out in the middle of the lake, music going, sun going down. We kept thinking: what if we could make that part even better? More comfortable, more relaxed, the kind of hang that actually lets you settle in. We looked for something like that, but couldn’t find it. So we built it ourselves.
What followed was a few years of real work. We partnered with engineering, manufacturing, and logistics teams to take the idea from prototype to finished product. We ran a Kickstarter campaign, mostly to find out whether anyone else felt the same way we did. The response was more than we expected. Hundreds of paddleboarders told us they'd been wishing for something like this. Over 100 of them preordered before we'd even started production. That told us everything we needed to know.
Along the way we also discovered something we didn't expect: the paddleboard community is genuinely one of the best out there. Other founders gave us advice and encouragement. Paddle guides and content creators helped us test the product in real conditions and took us to places on the water we never would have found on our own. We came in wanting to build a product and ended up wanting to be a part of this community for the long haul.
The SUP Paddle Lounge is the first product under the Blue Firefly brand. There will be more. Our goal is to keep making thoughtful gear for people who want to get outside, get on the water, and make the most of the time they have there.
