Who We are and Why We Built the SUP Paddle Lounge

Hey there!

We're Alex and Myra, the husband-and-wife team behind the SUP Paddle Lounge. This is our first post on the blog, and we figured the right place to start is at the beginning: why this thing exists at all.

A few years back, we had one of those perfect lake days. Just the two of us, flat water, good weather, nowhere to be. We paddled out, and at the end of the route we did what we always do: we stopped and hung out for a while. That part was always the best part of the trip. Floating there together, music going, sun on the water. We never wanted it to end.

The only thing that kept it from being truly perfect was getting in. Alex didn't love constantly wading around the board. Myra was a little hesitant about the lake itself. Let's just say she has some feelings about what might be living down there (we'll call them "sea creatures" and leave it at that). So we'd hang on the edges, a little awkward, never quite fully relaxed.

We started thinking: what if there was a way to actually get in the water comfortably? Both of us, easy. Cool off on a hot day, sink in on a warm evening before paddling back home, and not have to think twice about what's underneath.

We looked around for something that would let us do that. We didn't find it. So we started building it ourselves.

That's the honest origin story. No dramatic "we saw a gap in the market" moment. Just a lake day, two people who wanted to relax in the water without the hassle, and the nagging feeling that this thing should exist.

What followed was a few years of prototyping, testing, and re-testing (one of those tests involved getting in a lake in February, and we do not recommend it 🥶), and eventually a Kickstarter campaign. We launched it mostly to see if anyone else felt the same way we did. We weren't quite prepared for what happened next.

Hundreds of people told us they'd wanted exactly this. Not a polite "oh that's cool" response, but real genuine "where has this been my whole lake life" energy. Over 100 of them believed in it enough to preorder before we'd even started production. That was the moment we knew we were onto something. The Kickstarter wasn't really about the funding. It was the first time we heard from a whole community of paddleboarders who'd been wishing for the same thing we had.

But honestly, the product was only part of what we discovered along the way.
The other thing we found was the community itself. We met other founders who took time out of their day to encourage us and share hard-won advice. We connected with paddle guides and content creators who helped us test the lounge out in the wild and, in the process, showed us some of the most beautiful places to paddle we've ever seen. We went from two people with an idea to a couple who had stumbled into something much bigger than a product.

We didn't just realize we wanted to build the SUP Paddle Lounge. We realized we wanted to be part of this community for a long time.

The SUP Paddle Lounge is a floating lounge platform that anchors off your paddleboard so you and your crew can relax on the water with no shore required. It's built for people who already love paddleboarding and want their lake days to feel more like an epic hangout and less like a workout with a view.

We have partnered with leading engineering, manufacturing and logistics agencies to make the product a reality. We made 500 units for this first run. We're genuinely proud of how it turned out and can’t wait to get your feedback.

We started this blog because we want to share more than just the product. The behind-the-scenes of building something from scratch, what we've learned, where we've stumbled, and what's coming next. If you've followed us since the Kickstarter days, you know we don't hide much. We'll keep that up here.

And we read every email. If something you see here sparks a thought, a question, or an idea for what we should build next — we genuinely want to hear it.

What's next

The SUP Paddle Lounge is the first product under our parent brand, Blue Firefly. There will be more. Our long-term plan is to keep building thoughtful gear for people who want to spend more time outside with the people they love. But we wanted to start with the thing we kept coming back to on the water — the thing we wished existed.

Thanks for stopping by. We're so glad you're here.
Thanks for being part of this. We can't wait to see what your days on the water look like.
See you on the water soon!
